The IRS, the USPS, and You

Just FYI, if you happen to be in the same situation I am with the stimulus payment (i.e. moving before you're supposed to receive it), you need this page of the IRS handbook, which I stumbled onto by sheer luck. Filling out a mail forwarding form (which you can do online for $1 here) does not forward your government documents, so you need to alert government agencies separately.

Very good to know. I already got my stimulus check, but I can see how it could be useful.

I'm in the same boat but worried - the IRS change of address form says it takes 4-6 weeks for an address change to be processed. That's much longer than it will take to get a stimulus check! Any thoughts? I thought the post office forwarded all 1st class mail.

Love your blog by the way - very inspirational.

Emi, I think what I would do in this situation is leave a note in your mailbox (or send a letter there addressed to "Current Tenant") explaining the situation, and including a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that the new tenant can easily forward you the check. Just an idea.

Thanks for the compliment and for reading!
